The elusive Etruscans facts

1. Well first of all I think they were important to the Roman history because the museums around the world are filled with artifacts that were created by the Etruscans.

2. Another thing why they were important is because they contributed a lot to roman history and little is known about them, like how the Romans hired them as prophets and seers because the Etruscans were believed to have a special ability to divine the will of the gods.

3. Also because what they did influenced the Roman Empire to succeed more and become more powerful.

4. Another fact is that they were religious people who produced a wealth of beautiful art treasures and traveled/traded widely while other neighboring cities in Italy couldn’t achieve like them.

5. Also so many things have been found, but the scholars don’t know what they mean and no literature has been found of them, it like how did they improve so much without leaving any information about them.

The Etruscans are very important to Roman history in several ways. First of all, they ruled over Rome for a long time, so their influence was strong and the two civilizations joined (somewhat). Second, The Etruscans were the Romans neighbors before they conquered them, and the influence that came through trade and other transactions was certainly of some consequence. Yet a third influence was when the Romans, after they had conquered the Etruscans, brought Etruscans into the empire to serve as prophets and seers. These prophets were able to influence people’s decisions with their words. The Etruscans also created many cultural customs that became so much a part of Roman society that we tend to associate them with the Romans (and often no one else). These included gladiator fights and chariot races. Finally, the Etruscans taught the Romans about Greek culture, which greatly influenced the Roman empire.

1. Their language was unlike that of the Greek or Latin languages which could mean that Rome may have retained their own customs during the Etruscan rule.

2. The Romans observed the Etruscans cruelly but still assigned some to become prophets and seers because they were believed to have the ability to divine with the gods, linking them to Roman religion.

3. Another reason I believe that they were important to Roman history was because they contrasted with the Romans so much in art and language but they still ended up living by eachother.

4. The Romans had to defeat them (The Etruscans) to allow their republic to be established.

5. Evidence of the Etruscan civilization has been nearly wiped out yet we know so much about the Romans which is important to me because they did exist during the same time at one point.

-They traded with Egypt.
-Their writings, literature, and other works
(To know more about them, Roman accounts are probably somewhat biased)
-Traveled widely at a time where their neighbors didn't
-They were a successful society (up to a point). Wealthy. Ruled over Rome for a time. So had some influence over the Rome that came to be.
-Their art and craftsmanship pretty amazing. Produced beautiful art. Religious. Also probably had some influence on Roman art

Write 5 facts you believe made the Etruscans important to the Roman history.

1) The languages of the Etruscans were very different from everybody else, which made it difficult for scholars to read.

2) They had trading relations w/ Egypt

3) Their art (sculptures, paintings, jewelry, etc...)

4) Their artifacts that they created, which are stocked in museums all around the world. And maybe some of their culture might have rubbed of on the Greeks, because they had conquered the Etruscans

5) And the Etruscans are important to Roman history because they were important parts of they Roman society. They acted as prophets & seers.

The Etruscans:
•They had a major trade route. They produced a wealth of beautiful arts and treasures and traded widely with their neighbors.
•Romans speculated them as being effective seamen. So they could travel broadly around their kingdom.
•They had a very unique language, so they could be distinctively known throughout the known world.
•Their artifacts were so valuable that people began to produce fakes to get money.
•The Etruscans flourished for centuries before their kingdom fell to the Romans.
