Socrates applied his methods to examine moral concepts. The method is negative truth seeking (getting rid of every thing that isn’t true). This helped people bring out their beliefs and help them understand things better. Some casual principles of the teaching are the teacher must the topic of instructions, and the student must agree. The student must try to answer the question being asked. The teacher has to accept a correctly reasoned answer, and the process must be considered more important than the facts. Teachers might have to trick the students into the right answer. The student can correct the teacher. The teacher was supposed to lead the students in a group discussion. Socrates said that he was ignorant but claimed that he had knowledge. Then the oracle at Delphi said that he was the wisest of all men. Socrates said that “ wealth does not bring goodness, but goodness brings wealth and every other blessing, to the individual and the state”. Also” a life without examination is not worth living”.

The Socratic method is in essence teaching by asking questions and not just giving answers. The answer is found by getting rid of the false answers, using questions and inquiries.
Through this method teachers can teach their students to think for themselves, instead of just receiving and accepting the answers without question. These answers come from human experience and those things you just 'assume.'
This way of teaching brings forth what we assume to be and what really is. It's a system of logic. Where it's not simply about knowing the answer, but to have gained an understanding. This isn't just about knowing, but proving that they know by saying so.
Guidelines to follow:
-To do so a teacher, must set the topic beforehand.
-Students must try to answer teacher's questions
-These answers must be well founded
-Teacher's questions should seek to illuminate the truth and point out the errors in answers
-Teachers make mistakes too and can be corrected

The Socratic method is used to further your understanding of a topic, or prove it right or wrong. Every fact is carefully analyzed to determine if it is true of false and has reasoning behind it. All errors found will be eliminated. The Socratic method seems to ask alot of questions but never give any answers. You have to look for the answers yourself. When a teacher is teaching a student he will accept any answer if the answer has solid reasoning behind it. Identifying facts and being logical is useful in the Socratic method.

THE SOCRATIC METHOD
The basic idea of the Socratic Method is that the students discover the truth on their own. The teacher asks the student a series of questions and the student answers with his beliefs until he trips over himself. This particular method involves a lot of reasoning and being able to admit that he or she is wrong. Socrates believed in morals and used this method to help teach and emphasize them. Socrates also believed that everybody was ignorant, including himself. When others claimed that they were knowledgeable, Socrates scoffed and boasted that he was wiser than them because at least he was aware of his ignorance. The Socratic Method is a popular teaching technique today.
The Socratic Method is a method of examining something to distinguish between what is true and false. It is a test of logic formulated from questions to help people discover the answer/truth to something. This is also the only classic method of teaching that will teach students to think for themselves. This method is based on reasoning and convincing rather then a plain true fact. For instance, as long as a person gets to their point with logical reasoning, it is considered correct, even if the statement is really false. The trick is to have a logical chain that backs up the information.
Socrates said that it was the key to examining the virtues of the time, piety, wisdom, temperance, courage, and justice. He also said that he was ignorant but it was better then being ignorant and still saying that he is knowledgeable because he basically believes that everyone is ignorant.

Socrates is considered the 'father' of philosophy, the socratic method is a form of teaching, im not sure if this is right but from the reading i interpreted it as a form of debate almost, were the students can have their own opinion, and the teacher needs to snap back and know more about the topic. I also noticed in the 'crucial principals' that this method is sort of how we teach in schools today.. i mean some parts of it at least. The method is said to pretty much teach what's true and what is false, or just help teach a better understanding of the topic. The teacher helps students '' think for themselves'' instead of having other peoples opinions ''shape'' their own opinion .

In your own words, summarize the Socratic Method.
The Socratic Method was used to examine key moral concepts. It is said to be a negative method of truth-seeking because by asking questions he (or anyone who uses) examines can find underline meanings in ones opinions. This was a technique that coincides with the fact that he believed that a good teacher could teach students to learn for themselves instead of feeding them knowledge. It’s similar to the saying… Give a man a fish and he eats for a day… But teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime. If you teach a student to think for themselves they are forced to shape their own opinions. The Socratic Method is basically a “group of questions that are basically tests of knowledge that can help with the understanding of a certain/ specific topic. Some philosopher’s believe in this and other’s do not. But Socrates believed that a life that was not examined was not worth living.

The Socratic Method was a method that was supposed to find truth, but in a negative way. The article says that truth is found by identifying and eliminating that which is not true, so that means they examine what you say and judge you as either true or false by using a series of questions and tests of logic thats supposed to help discover the truth. So basically, they would eliminate all of the wrong answer to find a really good answer to the topic at hand. This method is also used by teachers when they are teaching in a classroom environment. The crucial principles to that form of teaching are for the teacher to set the topic of the discussion, the student must agree to try to answer the teachers questions, the teacher must be willing to accept any correctly-reasoned answer, and the teachers must expose the students reasoning error. The Socratic method of teaching is basically giving students questions instead of answers. It involves questioning the purpose or goal and the very nature of whatever is being examined. The entire concept was to teach by making students think for themselves rather than create a mini-version of the teacher, like the Sophists would do.

Principles to teach this method:

n my own words the Socratic method is basically a method used

their beliefs. Socrates is credited for making the scientific
method which we know today. But, Aristotle states that this
method cannot be applied to ethics.
Also using this method teachers can get students
to think for themselves and become involved with
their learning. But, there where some principles/rules
to follow:
1) Teacher gets to pick topic and students have to agree
2) Students have to try and answer questions from the teacher
3) The teacher has to accept any answer, with reason. So reason
was more important than facts.
4) If the Teacher makes a mistake the students can correct them
This method is also good for discussion, because it helps the
student understand better if they can find the answer (w/ reason)
rather than getting an answer from an authority. Socrates used

The socratic methodis a method of inquiry, it is largly applyed to the examination of key moral concepts. IT is a negative method of trouth-seeking, whish means that he eliminates all the false things, and it searches for underlying assumptions which shapes our opinions. it is basicly a a series of logic questions to discover the about something. To teach this method the teacher sets the topic, the student attempt to answer the questions, the teacher accepts any correctly reasoned answer, and the teacher has to find out where the student thought wrong. One can loosely lable any throughgoing questioning as the socratic method. Socrates said that being aware of self's ignorance is better then not knowing what you're talking about.

The socratic method is a way of teaching that a teacher uses for his students. this method of teaching is a way of eliminating the possibilities, until there is only one left. There is many agreements between the student and his teacher, the teacher will tell what they will discuss, student must answer questions, teacher accepts corectly reasoned answers, and students can correct teachers.
I think this is a great way of teaching, it allows both the teacher and the students to participate, and even encourages it. I like how the method encourages reasoning in your answer, you can't just give a random answer that you coppied from somebody else.

Socrates was most well known to westerns for the Socratic Method. Said to be the "Father of ethnics", or just philosophy. His method of teachings is much different because he finds the truth by eliminating the parts if the stories that are already proven otherwise. In his teachings you use logic, not opinions, then the truth will be better and not biased. Some teachers can teach their students this method by simple principles of teaching, and the teacher must except everyone's (reasoning) point of view on the topic given, and may question why. Socrates himself was ignorant, and his students learned from that, and he tried to shape it.

Socrates is said to be the father of ethics and moral philosophy, and therefore philosophy in general. Socrates’ method of teaching involved students answering questions asked by a teacher. The student must not only have the correct answer, but more importantly must correctly reason this answer. The teacher must find errors in the student’s reasoning and correct them. A discussion works well for this method. Socrates looked at morals a lot, and brought out inadequacies. He thought that to be wronged is better than to do wrong.

Using the socratic method teachers taught students to think for themselves because the teacher let them find out things for themselves. Some of the main parts to this method were: the students must at least try to answers questions asked by a teacher. The teacher had to accept any answers that had some reason or proof behind it because the process of finding an answer out is more important than the answer itself.
