King Philip II wanted what was best for his son. He knew that Alexander not only needed to be able to keep his country organized, but also be able to keep the favor of the people. Aristotle was the best suited to teach his son this. Aristotle loved nature, and was determined to organize it. He took complex creatures and separated them into two basic groups, known today as vertebrates and invertebrates. He looked at things in a different way, and then persuaded people to take his side. By the end of his life, Aristotle had convinced half the world that the heart was the center of knowledge in the human body.

I believe that King Philip learned about how Aristotle's intelligence was so unique... well persuasive... and his knowledge was so complex that it would be the best for his son. If Alexander learned from Aristotle his intelligence would too be thought out and convincing. Which in return would make a good ruler. And the fact that Aristotle knew so much on nature, that's what they had to prove was the way things worked... besides the gods creating them in some bizarre way. And what Aristotle did was take what we now believe is the obvious and actually made the classification of the animals. In conclusion, I think King Philip saw the way he could persuade things (even if they weren't always correct) was knowledge that a prince and soon to be king needed to acquire.
In order for his rule to go on, King Philip II needed a well educated heir. In order for this to happen he got the best teacher/philosopher of their time, Aristotle to do this job. His theories basically covered almost every field of knowledge. He felt that Aristotle would be a proper teacher because many people believed him, right or wrong. There was even a point in time where his thoughts ruled over all others. One reason why I think he was chosen to be Alexander's teacher was because he was different from other philosophers and tried something new by trying to biologically classify every animal and plant. In doing so he classified around 540 of them which is a pretty big accomplishment. Another admirable trait was that his thoughts ruled over all others because he was so persuasive. King Philip II must have wanted his son to learn new knowledges and be so persuasive that his theories would rule over most. He would have also made a great teacher because he knew a lot on the subjects of politics, metaphysics, astronomy, literature, logic, ethics, physics, meteorology, and psychology
King Philip decided to have Aristotle tutor his son because Aristotle was very persuasive and could teach his son to become persuasive, too. Persuasiveness is a key trait in a ruler because then the ruler can get people to do what he wants them to do. It is then possible to control large groups of people, because they will agree with you.
King Philip also may have wanted Aristotle as his son's teacher because Aristotle was so observant and smart. He discovered many things in biology that are still true today, without the use of microscopes. A king must also be observant, though not neccisarily in biology. Aristotle was very organized, and managed to order animal into invertebrates and vertebrates. Organization is also needed to be a king.
Aristotle was summoned to Macedon because King Philip II wanted his then 14 year old son, Alexander the Great to learn these great organizational skills that Aristotle was known for and how his persuasive tone could influence a great deal of people. Philip II had only 6 years to hand over the throne to his son, so he wanted to quickly and very well have a great philosopher teach his son. While other philosophers gave what answers they saw fit to every question their pupil learned, Aristotle proved a breakthrough idea. You can continue your education for the rest of your life, learning new things everyday by just asking the simplest of questions.
Aristotle also approached things differently, as he had did with his method of the classification of animals. Instead of following other philosophers' method of grouping them according to appearance, he grouped them in accordanance to behavior. A successor to the king could learn much from just this action. Aristotle had that unique observational skill of truly examining something, and a mighty king definitely could go far with this mentality.
Aristotle was a great philospher in many things like literature, ehtics, and pyschology but one thing he was truely passionate about was Nature. So, therefore King Phillip II knew that Aristotle was the perfect teacher for his son, that e could be the best possible leader he could be. Aristotle was a wise man who looked at things in a different way so of course king phillip II wanted him for his son. - Allison Linner
Aristotle had passion for the study of living things. His enthusiasm allowed him to study the subject meticulously without ever tiring. In his lifetime, he described 540 types of animal and rejected the old ideas of classification. Through his careful observation, he was able to classify animals as vertebrates and invertebrates; and notice things like when the heart of a chick develops inside an egg. Philip II, the king of Macedon, wanted a tutor for his son, Alexander (later the Great); and he chose Aristotle because of his wisdom. Thus, when Alexander conquered most of the known world, he spread Aristotle's ideas and brought back exotic samples for his old teacher to study.

In my opinion, I think that the genuine intelligence that Aristotle had, which influenced all of Greek thinking, was enough to get King Phillip II to summon him as a tutor. But, also his theories about plants and animals that lead to what we now know as the two classes of vertebrae and invertebrate. Some other theories include his theory that we were related to certain animals by the way we birth our young, which also lead to the creation of the different kingdoms.
Aristotle, overall, was someone who was dedicated to his interests and his education. No body else in his era had the heart to describe and observe about 540 animals without present day aids. (books, microscope, computer, etc...) I think that dedication also convinced King Phillip II to call on Aristotle to teach his son, Alexander the Great. Aristotle made many advances in metaphysics, politics, astronomy, literature, ethics, logic, meteorology, physics, economics, and psychology. His influence of philosophy impacts the Western world today.
Aristotle was so valuable because he knew so much not only in education but also in common sense. He was a well rounded person. King Philip II probably felt very comfortable with his son being tutored by the great Aristotle. Aristotle was the best philosopher and certaintly the smartest King Philip II has heard of. Aristotle discovered a lot of things that we have today and that probably made him the most wanted philosopher of King Philip II and for his son.
Aristotle was a huge part of biology and a big part of science today. Darwin even said he owed him a big one. All of he's discoveries and inventions were by trial and error. He wasn't afraid of being wrong. I think he thought of wrong meaning he has to do it better and find out the problem. I'm guessing that King Philip II wanted Aristotle because he wanted his son to be as smart as him.
I think that the reason king philip the second wanted aristotle to tutor his son is because he was one of the best philosophers who studied every single thing and did't stay on one topic. somethings he studied were politics, astronomy, economics, and psychology.
Also king philip wanted his son to be a smart person like aristotle and people could listen to him and his father wanted him to rule. and guess what aristotle sure did do a nice job helping alexander because he established a greek-speaking empire.
In my opinion i think King Phillip II wanted Aristotle to tutor his son because Aristotle was dedicated to his work/interest, he was really super smart. He takes the time to study 540 animals just because he liked them and wanted to know more about them.
i also think he picked aristotle because he is very observant and also very persuesive so even if it wasnt correct people would think it was :). That iswhy i think King Phillip picked Aristotle to tutor Alexander the great.
King Philip II's son, Alexander, was taking the thorn in 6 years and he knew that his son would need the best education possible. Aristotle was the most influential of the Greek philosophers. His teachings would be most beneficial for Alexander and the entire kingdom.
Aristotle took a great interest in nature, primarily animals. He has described about 540 different kinds of animals. He arranged animals into two groups, today know as vertebrates and invertebrates. While most other philosophers classified animals on appearance, Aristotle looked deeper and found that animals were related to each other by way of birth. His way of thinking was not always correct but it was his way of reasoning that was amazing. He thought that the brain was the center of the bodies’ intelligence and the brain cooled blood. However wrong, people believed him because of his extraordinary knowledge.
aristotle was one of the most intelligent philosophers to have lived in those times. He was such an intelligent philosopher that King Philip the second hired him to be the tutor of his son Alexander the Great. I think that Aristotle was a great choice for a tutor.I think that anyone who was able to divide the animal groups and describe over 540 different animals without a microscope would have to be extremely smart. He has came up with things that we havn't confirmed true until the 1800's. One other reason that i think people would hire him is that he was unbelievably persuasive.
Alexander the great was going to be the next king of Macedonia, so of course his dad wanted one of the best tutors possible to teach his son. Aristotle had knowledge of mainly all fields. He didn’t just stick to knowing a few things but instead he studied loads of things (therefore he can teach you more things). Aristotle mainly introduced biology, and that science is considered essential because it is the study of life. He was interested in how life came to be and the classifications of animals; thanks to him we have vertebrates and invertebrates. We are still learning from his teachings, all his writings have a great effect on how we think. -Alison Robinson
To Yolanda: I liked the ending of your second paragraph. Good analysis.
To Eskira: liked your answer. it flowed very nicely. Could tell that you really understood the article. -Alison Robinson; wasn't really sure if we had to make comments, -absent tomorrow.
Aristotle was one of the best choices for King Phillip II to tutor his son because of Aristotle’s uncanny knack of being very good at persuasion. He was very adept in the art of persuasion and King Phillip II saw that it was because of how smart he was.
Another reason the king chose Aristotle to tutor his son Alexander was because of the leaps and bounds Aristotle had made in the field of science, particularly biology. Aristotle had made some huge discoveries back then in the ways of animals, a few of these were, describing around 540 different animals, classify them in different ways, and find small details in the creation of animal life that had never been thought of before. I think this is why King Phillip II wanted Aristotle to be the tutor of his son Alexander.
King Phillip wanted his son to be well educated. Aristotle was a well known philosopher, and thought beyond basic Greek thinking. Aristotle had a lot to offer, so he definitely stood out amongst other teachers.
Aristotle covered the majority of the fields of knowledge. He was very particular in the way he studied things. When he suggested that the heart inside the embryo of a chick develops four days after being a speck of blood that beats on the egg, no one wanted to repeat his experiment. Too much work. He separated the animal kingdom into categories and subcategories in such an advanced way that we still go use his system today.
King Philip II had alot of respect for Aristotle. This was because he had persuasive ideas that could lure people into thinking one way or another. Aristotle helped him develop Greece.
King Phillip II also knew that he wanted one of the best philosophers for his son, and with that his son would be able to do/ accomplish almost anything. When alexanders empire started expanding so did the idea of aristotles philosophy, which made the western world more complex.
King Philip II was a great king and he wanted his son to grow up to be a great king so he wanted the best teacher he could find. Aristotle could also teach him to become a great leader by valuing other peoples opinions and not just their own.
He also divided all animals into two groups (Vertibrates and Invertibrates) which he did without modern day tools. Aristotle's ideas were very "different" and King Philip wanted his son to get a good idea of how the world could be if they looked at it in different ways.
I think that because king philip wanted aristotle to teach his son, the king must have been a very great father. Alexander would need to grow up to be a smart person because after his father died, he would have to take the throne. This was a smart thing to to actually, because Aristotle could then pass on his knowledge to Alexander. His theory of friendships probably helped Alexander figure out who was really on his side and who was a traitor.
This is probably the closest reason as to why Alexander the great had conquered so many things. He had to have been very smart to do this, so he needed someone with great knowledge to show him the ropes. When Aristotle taught little Alex, he must have taught him a lot of good strategies to conquering! -Alejandro Potter
Aristotle was said to be one of the greatest and most influencial of the Greek Philosophers. He had an extensive selection of knowledge on many different topics, including (but not limited to) metaphysics (abstract concepts such as being, knowing, substance, cause, identity, time, and space), politics, astronomy, literature, ethics, logic, meteorology, physics, economics, biology (which he was essentially the founder of) and pyschology. Having someone to teach your child such a wide range of information would be very good, especially for someone who would eventually become king. That way he can have a thorough education and be able to make intelligent decisions for the good of the kingdom.
Aristotle's passionate love of plants and animals and his desire to organize them and reveal the order and beauty of Nature is another example of why he would have been a good teacher for Alexander. Instead of simply dumping organisms into categories based on appearance such as "winged" or "footless", he realized that animals completely different in appearance can have strong similarities, such as the dolphin and human. He first created the plant and animal kingdoms, then subdivided the animal kingdom into what we now call vertebrates and invertebrates (animals with spinal system or no spinal system). This shows he was a deep thinker and that he was a revolutionary genius. And people believed him, too!
I think that King Philip II chose Aristotle to tutor his son for a few reasons. The first was his complex reasoning process. He might not have been right, but becuase he reasoned so well, people believed dhim. He noticed that different animals were born different ways, and so he separated them into two groups. He saw the unsusual breeding of the catfish, which was not accepted until centurys later, when an american discovered it. He also discovered the strange mating process of the octupus. This was not accepted until the late 1800s. He also believed that the heart was the seat of intellegence and the brain just cooled blood sent to the heart. Aristotle also had an amazing influence with people. When a priest observed spots on the sun, his observation was dissmissed becuase "Aristotle didn't mention any spots". Also, his theory that heavy things fall faster than lighter things was not disproved until Galileo proved him wring. He halted progress becuase everyone believed his theories for centuries to come. I think that Kind Philip II saw the incredible intellegence of this man and the influence he had on people, and decided from that that Aristotle should tutor his son.
oops, it doesn't look like two paragraphs, but its supposed to be (my entry) The first paragraph ends after talking about the heart and starts talking about Aristotles influence on people
In your opinion, what theories made Aristotle so valuable that King Philip II summoned him to serve as tutor to his son? Write your answer in a two-paragraph format (minimum)
In my opinion, Aristotle was summoned to tutor King Phillips II because Aristotle was widely known for being an extremely wise and passionate (about his work) type of guy. He mastered metaphysics, politics (which was imortant for his son to know), astronomy, literature, ethics, logic and the list goes on, literally. He also knew that Aristotle thought a lot differently than others. He Often could think a certain way and then persuade and convince others into thinking on the same level. And as far as I know, Persuasion was a very good thing.
Aristotle was a wise and extremely intelligent man. He had so many philosophies and each one covered a different thing that was actual present day science. He at one point believed that the heart was the center of all knowledge in the human body and even thought it isn't, It is the most important muscle in your body. Even though this conclusion wasn't right he found supportive evidence in order to get everyone (half of the "eorld") to believe his philosophy. And there is nothing left to be said after a person such as Aristotle to be placed in such a setting.
Philip II summoned Aristotle to tutor his son because he was very knowledgable, he pretty much started biology by himself. He described 540 kinds of animal, and found that things then thought to be plants were animals.
He was also persuasive, he got half the world to believe in what he said, so he can teach the then little Alexander to convince and hold the people he would eventually lead.
In my opinion, Aristotle was summoned to be the teacher for Alexander the Great for a few reasons. First Alexander, in order to rule and govern the land effectively, needed to be persuasive and keep the trust of the people he was governing. There was nobody better than Aristotle when it came to that, especially since his ideas dominated European thinking. Even though many of ideas were not correct, he convinced half the world that they were.
Alexander needed to also be well-educated in order to govern effectively. Aristotle had knowledge of almost every field of knowledge. Aristotle also was so intelligent that he could develop new ways of thinking. He created an animal classification system that we still base ours off of today. He separated animals into two main groups, which are better known today as vertebrates and invertebrates. There was simply no one better fit to tutor Alexander the Great than Aristotle simply because of Aristotle's knowledge, intelligence in general, and persuasiveness.
Brittany Buurstra Aristotle showed interest in animals. He made many observations in the area of animal life, specifically in reproduction and prenatal existence. A couple of examples are chicks embryos and dogfish embryos. He also made a discovery about the mating procedure of the octopus. He classified animals into 2 groups: vertebrates and invertebrates. He wasn't perfect in his theories, though. He thought the heart was the "seat of intelligence." He also came up with the idea heavy objects fell faster than light ones. But his wrong conclusions led others to conclusions, such as the pyramid of life and Darwin's theory of evolution. The point is, Aristotle was a life-long thinker who never gave up and always wanted to learn new things.
Haley Jacoby First hour King Phillips II summoned Aristotle to tutor his song because of Aristotle’s vast knowledge. Aristotle studied all types of knowledge such as metaphysics, politics, astronomy, literature, ethics, logic, meteorology, physics, economics, and psychology. The biggest thing Aristotle studied was animals. He described about 540 animals and discovered many things about certain species. He was the first to classify animals into vertebrates and invertebrates. King Philip II would be a fool not to choose Aristotle to teach his son because he was one of the most intellectual people of those times. Due to Aristotle’s great teaching, Alexander the Great establish a Greek speaking empire from Spain to India, developed the refinement of Greek knowledge, named a city Alexandria, and many other great accomplishments. Aristotle’s vast knowledge not only affected the people back then, but also affects and influences our lives today.
King Philip II wanted Aristotle to tutor his son, Alexander the Great because Aristotle was highly influential in his day with a good reputation. Obviously, only the best can teach royalty and King Philip must have thought that Aristotle was trustworthy enough and intelligent enough to shape the next king for the throne. He also had knowledge on many subjects, so King Philip would only need one tutor instead of several. Even though he was wrong I think one of his theories that was important was that the human heart was the center of knowledge. It was because he was so persuasive that people believed him even, I assume, the King. Also the classification of animals must have been very important because many have tried to classify them, but most failed. It also paved the way for the theory of evolution, and if it is so important now, I would like to think it was just as important then.
I think King Philip the II chose him to tutor his son was that Aristotle knew many things, like metaphysics, politics, astronomy, and he found single handedly the science of Biology. Aristotle also loved nature so much. He was extremely passionate with flowers. He also loved that Aristotle was so persuasive and he knew that his son that which will become Alexander the Great needed to have the persuasive skill that Aristotle had. We also learned many stuff from Aristotle that he created 2 separate groups called the vertebrates and the invertebrates. He also knew when his son traveled and conquered half of the world that Alexander would spread Aristotle’s ideas. Aristotle also changed the ideas of many people that lived past him. King Philip II was comfortable having Aristotle tutoring his kid because he could teach him knowledge and knowledge in the outside world. Nota, Ben
Aristotle was so valuable because he was very smart and new alot of things. He didn't just know about living animals and organisms but he also had great common sense. I think he was summoned to tutor Kind Philip's son because King Philip wanted his son to be a great leader and to be educated so he wanted the best teacher he could fine which was Aristotle. Aristotle had knowledge of many things like, politics, astronomy, ethics, psychology and many more.
We know many things from Aristotle. He created the invertabrate and vertabrate groups that we have today. He was also a very persuasive man and because of his intelligence, even when things were wrong, people still believed him. He backed up what he thought with facts and showed what he knew. He was very intelligent, persuasive, and full of knowledge. This is why i think King Philip wanted him to tutor his son.
King Philip knew that he needed to find a teacher for his son and not just anyone the best. The best happened to be Aristotle. At times he could be very wrong about something but his way of words is what got peoples attention. Aristotle always went up and beyond normal thinking, which is what makes him great. He is a well rounded person who was knowledgeable about many things in life, some being biology his forte, logic, ethics, politics and so much more. What sets him different from other philosophers is how persuasive he is. He can get you to believe what he wanted you to even of he was wrong. He was a man who needed solid evidence compared to others who were content with their conclusions based on reason alone. He basically founded biology. He is the one who classified animals as vertebrate and invertebrate. Aristotle has a lot of knowledge to offer and that is why I think king Philip II wanted Aristotle to teach his son.
I believe that the reason king philip II choose aristotle to tutor his son is because it was more advanced than anything anyone had ever known. Aristotle observed thingsmore closely than most people. He tried to understand the fundamentals and the make up of things. such as animals, plants, ect. Aristotle mostly focused on nature, so he could also try to see how things worked around him. Not that this was his only interest, he also studied on many other subjects as well. This is probabally why king philip II wanted his son to study under him. because he was a well rounded philosopher, who was interested in many subjects. Aristotle was also a prsuasive person, which could help a future king.
The king wanted a good philosopher to teach his son many great ideas that surrended their world. Aristotle was a great teacher for his son because he came up with many brilliant theories. King Phillip II wanted a teaacher who could help Alexander question things in life and get a better understanding of them. Aristotle studied many thing about nature and helped form classifications and understandings on how animals reproduce.Aristotle divided organisms into two basic gropus which were vertebrates and invertebrates.Aristotle had a way of convincing or persuading people to understand or to see his veiws on things. King Phillip probably admired this in him and since he had a reason or theory on how things worked he could undertand his veiws.Aristotle was a smart man who wanted to make advances in the world and king phillip didnt want his son to miss out on all the potential knowledge his son could be receiving.
because of aristotles interest In nature king phillip knew he'd be the best teacher for his son. not only could aristotle flawlessly come to conclusion about the outdoors, he was prominate in ethics and psychology. Aristotle was obviously intelligent, and he was also considered wise. and that's why I think king phillip II liked Aristotle.
Mark Marciniak 1St hour In my opinion the theories that made Aristotle so valuable to King Philip 2 to have him teach his son who was later known as Alexander the Great was the broad range Aristotle was part of. Aristotle wasn’t just any other philosopher who just studied one thing, or believed in one thing, Aristotle believed in a broad variety of things, and he studied in a broad variety of philosophies. Aristotle was encompassed virtually in all fields of knowledge, including, metaphysics, politics, astronomy, literature, ethics, logic, meteorology, physics, economics, and psychology. Now see that’s a wide range of studies, and that’s, in my opinion, why King Philip 2 picked Aristotle to teach his son. King Philips son was the heir to the throne, in place of his father. Now being king and all is really difficult job and so King Philips wanted his son to be taught well, to be ready for anything that may come his way as king. So this is why Aristotle was so valuable to King Philips 2, this is why King Philips 2 wanted Aristotle to tutor his son. In a way Aristotle was a sophist and King Philips was the parent who wanted his son to be successful in life, to do a government job. Aristotle was good, he was really at what he did, that is why a lot people had preferred him, I mean wouldn’t you choose a teacher/philosopher who was really good, and had a wide variety of fields of study. King Philips wanted the best for his son, like everyone else, an Aristotle was one.
Comment to Kylie Smith: I liked how your answer was more in your own opinion and how his ability to persuade was a top reason on why he was chosen.
Comment to Yasmen Wells: I also liked that you noted that he observed animal behavior rather than appearance making his skills of observation a reason for him to be chosen by King Philip II.
King Philip II must've realized that Aristotle's teachings would be a great asset to the kingdom. He saw that Aristotle had a wide array of knowledge. So he would be able to school Alexander in many areas. Aristotle was first of all a philosopher, but he was also a scientist, a teacher of ethics, economics, physics, psychology, literature, and an explorer. He stands today as a prominent figure in the study of life; biology. He successfully divided animals into two groups; invertebrates and vertebrates. Along with that he studied some 540 types of animals. A man with that kind of knowledge would be extremely beneficial to a king to be like Alexander. So it would've been foolish not to hire him, if after there was more to gain. -Maria Gonzalez

Aristotle had many theories, One of them was that The chicken eggs heart forms after 4 days it is layed. Another was that he tried to classify the animals into categories. These were Vertebrates, and invertabrates.
Some other reasons that King phillip II wanted aristotle to be his son's tutor was because he wanted the best for his son and aristotle was the most influencial philosopher of his time. He was also very persuasive.

-Jeffery Oard
King Philip II was a great king and he wanted his son to grow up to be a great king so he wanted the best teacher he could find. Aristotle could also teach him to become a great leader by valuing other peoples opinions and not just their own.
He also divided all animals into two groups (Vertibrates and Invertibrates) which he did without modern day tools. Aristotle's ideas were very "different" and King Philip wanted his son to get a good idea of how the world could be if they looked at it in different ways.
-Duncan White

-Hanna Shih, 3rd hr

Aristotle showed interest in animals.

King Phillips II summoned Aristotle to tutor his song because of Aristotle’s vast knowledge.
Mackenzie Campbell

-Niara Riley
because of aristotles interest In nature king phillip knew he'd be the best teacher for his son.
not only could aristotle flawlessly come to conclusion about the outdoors, he was prominate in ethics and psychology. Aristotle was obviously intelligent, and he was also considered wise. and that's why I think king phillip II liked Aristotle.

In my opinion the theories that made Aristotle so valuable to King Philip 2 to have him teach his son who was later known as Alexander the Great was the broad range Aristotle was part of.
Comment to Kylie Smith:
I liked how your answer was more in your own opinion and how his ability to persuade was a top reason on why he was chosen.
Comment to Yasmen Wells:
I also liked that you noted that he observed animal behavior rather than appearance making his skills of observation a reason for him to be chosen by King Philip II.
Sara Spiller 1st Hour

Aristotle had many theories, One
of them was that The chicken eggs

Another was that he tried to classify

Some other reasons that King phillip II
