1. What was the original name of Olympias?

The real name of Olympias was Myrtale.

2. What was the name of Olympias' brother who succeeded to the throne of Epirus?

Alexander-?!

3. Analyze the reading and explain what characteristics (of his character) Alexander inherited from Olympias and from King Philip?

I think that Alexander inherited his mother's power and forceful personality. He managed to expand his empire to an amazing extent. He also took resent from Olympias, because he is known for having a knack at holding grudges, and he never forgets any injuries he receives. As far as this reading goes, I don't really see a lot of Phillip in Alexander, other than Alexander following his father's path in leading the military and being king. This must be because Phillip was always gone.

not mentioned in reading...
Alexander I of Epirus

3. Analyze the reading and explain what characteristics (of his character) Alexander inherited from Olympias and from King Philip?

Alexander inherited his mother's ambition and
her sense of destiny and greatness
(something she tried to instill in him). He
also inherited some "resentment" from
Olympias & Philip. Because he was known
for holding grudges and never letting go of an
injury he had received. I assume he might
have gotten his vast knowledge of politics,
military, and arts from his father, Philip. But,
I am not sure, because his father was away
in campaigns most of the time.

3. I think that Alexander's mother taught him to have a sense of destiny and greatness and thats why he conquered so many places. I think she also instilled a sense of disrespect for his father in him. The reading doesn't talk much about his father, but i would assume he also instilled the fight in Alexander.

From Olympias Alexander inherited his sense of destiny, her ambition, her sense of dislike (since he always has to have vengeance and hold grudges),and her forceful personality. Alexander probably inherited few but good characteristics from Philip since he was away a lot; such as his generosity or his desire to be a leader.

Alexanders mother guided him through his formative years. She was to instill in him a sense of destiny and the greatness to which he would ascend. She also might of tried to turn him away from his father. Alexander followed his fathers footsteps to become a military leader and a king.

Alexander [[the first]]

3. Analyze the reading and explain what characteristics (of his character) Alexander inherited from Olympias and from King Philip?

Well since it said in our book that she was all about her sons success then of course he inherited a lot from that. But, in this reading I believe that he inherited much more then the power to rule [[which is what he learned from King Philip... in my opinion]] from Olympias, he learned how to control his destiny. He also was taught\learned to respect, which is why he was always so good to his soldiers that fought.

Arrybas? (Article wasn't really clear on this)

3. Analyze the reading and explain what characteristics (of his character) Alexander inherited from Olympias and from King Philip?

From his mother he was taught not to trust people which might have helped him in his campaign. Olympias was also very ambitious which is probably why he conquered so many people and so much land. Alexander didn't take a whole lot out of his father because he was taught by his mother not to trust him. She said that he had "moral shortcomings" and because of this Alexander wasn't with his dad as much; Although I think that he might have gained some knowledge on how to be a good leader of a kingdom and in battle. His father also taught him some sword play and also hired Aristotle to tutor him so he did help in some ways.

3. Analyze the reading and explain what characteristics (of his character) Alexander inherited from Olympias and from King Philip?

Myrtale

2. What was the name of Olympias' brother who succeeded to the throne of Epirus?

Alexander (not Alexander the Great)

3. Analyze the reading and explain what characteristics Alexander enherited from Olympias and from King Philip.

Olympias:

- sense of destiny
- sense of greatness
- ambitious
- holds grudges

since alexander was a little boy his mom put these ideas in his head, it is also believed that Olympias killed Philip in order to ensure that Alexander was put on the throne instead of one of Philip's other sons.

King Philip:

- ambitious
- generosity
- similar military tactics

When Alexander was eight years old, he tamed a horse that no else could tame. he gets this characteristic from his father, Philip did start the conquest for Persia after all. Philip also showed a measure of generosity when he decided not to make the greek city-states pay tribute. not only was this a generous act, but it was also a strong military tactic, instead of tribute he asked for soldiers to achieve a common military goal.

3.Alexander inherited the strong determination and war like persona from his dad.Watching his dad conquer empires and obtain more and more land inspired him to grow up and do the same (even more). From his mom he inherited bitterness. She killed the second wife of her ex, it sort of seems like she was trying to get back at Phillip. Alexander does the same, He never forgot harm and in the end he rarely failed to carry out his vengeance.

3. Analyze the reading and explain what characteristics (of his character) Alexander inherited from Olympias and from King Philip?

Philip inherited his extreme determination from both his parents, but probably more from his mother, Olympias. He displayed some distaste toward his father; a characteristic that was instilled in him by his mother. His sense of great destiny was also formed by his mother.
From his father, Philip, he inherited outstanding military and leadership skills. Besides that, as he himself said, his father only gave him life.
